My sister in law first made us baked brie wrapped in puff pastry, I was immediately hooked! This decadent intro to a meal was just the thing to get my tummy rumbling. Ever since then it has been the topic of discussion to try and make some of the best baked brie in the world.

My sister had sent us some wild huckleberry jam from Oregon and the stage was set for some of the most delicious eating that one could experience. This is now my most favorite baked brie recipe!

What ingredients do you need to make baked brie?

  • Wheel of brie
  • Puff pastry
  • Jam, for this one I used wild huckleberry

The main ingredients that you need are the wheel of brie and puff pastry. Continue reading for more toppings that go great in and on baked brie!

How to make baked brie

Cut your wheel of brie in half so that you have the top and the bottom left over. Like a hamburger bun is sliced.

You do this so that you wheel of brie is not too thick. It also is a bonus because this way you can make 2 wheels of baked brie instead of just 1.

About an hour before you are ready to get started. Take your box of puff pastry out of the freezer and place it in the refrigerator. You want your puff pastry to be as cold as possible but not frozen.

Remove it from the refrigerator after it has had time thaw out a bit. On a lightly floured surface, unfold it so that it lays out flat on your cutting board.

Place your wheel of brie, rind side down, in the center of your sheet of puff pastry. You are going to want to work quickly because puff pastry is at its highest potential when it is very cold. If you puff pastry warms to room temperature it will still work, but not as well.

Spoon some huckleberry jam on top of the wheel of brie and spread it out evenly.

Place the wheel of brie in one of the corners of the sheet of puff pastry. Then fold the puff pastry corner to corner diagonally to cover up the brie.

Then roll up and crimp the outsides of your puff pastry to seal up this pocket of delicious cheese and huckleberry jam!

Now your baked brie wheel is ready to go in the oven!

Although you can decorate it with strips of puff pastry. I personally think that this shape would look great with a superman emblem on top. What a perfect treat for your little boys birthday party!!!

For a get together with your friends from school, how cool would it be to decorate this to look like the sphinx?

Bake at 400°F for 25 minutes or until the puff pastry looks perfectly golden brown.

YUM!

After baking let it rest for 20 minutes before slicing and serving.

If you slice right away, much of the cheese will melt onto the table. If you try to eat it right away, it will be the single hottest thing that you have ever put in your mouth.

You can slice it like a pie and everyone get a piece. We normally slice it in strips between 1 to 2 inches wide.

What toppings go well with baked brie?

You can make either savory or sweet baked brie with puff pastry. Between those 2 options there are possibly hundreds of ingredients that you can add to baked brie to make it something very special.

To give a short list:

Savory

  • Garlic powder or roasted garlic
  • Caramelized onions
  • Roasted red peppers
  • Roasted green chilis

Sweet

  • Honey
  • Berries like raspberries, or blueberries
  • Nuts like cashews, almonds, or pistachio
  • Jelly or jam of many kinds, apricot, huckleberry, or lingonberry for example
  • Cinnamon
  • Brown sugar

Can I store baked brie?

In the rare case of having left overs of baked brie, it would be best not to store it. To get the best quality out of it, it is best to eat it freshly baked.

Puff pastry does not get any better after sitting in the refrigerator.

If you must store it, you could store it in an airtight plastic container for up to 2 days for best quality. Then reheat in the oven at 400°F until the puff pastry is crispy on the outside.

What drinks pair well with baked brie?

You have the option of a wide range of beverages to pair with baked brie. Brie is fatty and mild in flavor and does well with a mild, crisp wine. If you aim to please, you will want to provide one of the following to compliment your creation.

  • Champagne
  • Pinot noir
  • Rosè
  • Chardonnay

BAKED BRIE RECIPE

Baked Brie is a wonderful way to start or finish a meal! Great for holidays or family get togethers, anyone would be delighted to bite into this concoction of absolutely perfect ingredients!

Prep Time 40 minutes
Cook Time 25 minutes
Additional Time 20 minutes
Total Time 1 hour 25 minutes

Ingredients

  • 8oz wheel of brie
  • 1.1lb 2 pack of puff pastry
  • 1/4 cup huckleberry jam or other flavor of jam
  • Flour for puff pastry

Instructions

  1. Remove puff pastry from freezer and let it sit in the refrigerator for 40 minutes.
  2. Preheat oven to 400°F
  3. Slice the wheel of brie in half horizontally, like you would separate the top and bottom of a hamburger bun.
  4. Unfold 1 sheet of puff pastry and lay it out on a lightly floured surface.
  5. Place one half of the wheel of brie, rind side down on the sheet of puff pastry and spread jam on top of the brie.
  6. Fold the puff pastry over the brie, push out all of the air and seal and crimp the edges of the pastry to create a sealed pocket.
  7. Place it on a cookie sheet with a sheet of parchment paper on it.
  8. Bake at 400°F for 25 minutes or until puff pastry is golden brown.
  9. Remove from the oven and let rest for 20 minutes before slicing and serving.
  10. Slice and serve fresh.

Notes

You could use a wedge of brie if you don't have the small wheels of brie available to you.

You can decorate with strips of puff pastry before you put it in the oven.

Any jam will do if you don't have this delicious wild huckleberry jam. Baked brie just goes very well with sweet fruit.

Letting it rest for 20 minutes makes all the difference in the world. The cheese will stay more in tact and wont melt out onto your counter, and if you try it fresh out of the oven, hot brie will stick to your lips and reign fire down upon you.

This is such a decadent treat to provide your loved one for anniversary or birthday. Or just a special time to spend together.
