This is one of my very favorite things in the kitchen! It doesn’t have harmful chemicals like a can of spray and you can put whatever kind of oil you want!
Season the croutons and toss:
- Spray or drizzle the avocado oil over the bread cubes, tossing them gently to ensure even coating.
- Sprinkle garlic powder, onion powder, dried rosemary, dried thyme, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and black pepper over the bread cubes. Toss again until the cubes are evenly coated with oil and seasonings.
Bake:
- Spread out seasoned cubes in the air fryer or in a single layer on a baking sheet.
- Turn air fryer on 375°F (190°C) for 10 minutes, turning the croutons halfway through, until they are golden brown and crispy or in the oven for 10-15 min. Be sure to turn the halfway through.
Cool and serve:
Allow the croutons to cool completely before using. Store in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
Seriously Amazing! So crunchy and good!
Look at the showcase of these croutons with all of these beautiful colors in this salad. Lots of crunch and healthy ingredients!
Additional Notes:
- Bread Choice: Any type of bread can be used, from rolls and baguettes to sandwich bread. Stale bread works best as it holds its shape and crisps up more evenly.
- Seasoning Variations: Customize the croutons with your favorite spices. Try adding Parmesan, smoked paprika, or Italian seasoning for different flavors.
- Cooking Method: For a quicker option, you can cook the croutons in a skillet over medium heat. Just toss frequently until they’re golden and crisp.
- Storage Tip: Store cooled croutons in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. If they start to soften, you can quickly re-crisp them in the oven at 350°F for 5 minutes.
