Step 1 of making this Easy Body Butter Recipe

There are two steps this process. This first step is to infuse the oil and the second step is to make the Easy Body Butter.

Equipment Needed For Quick Infused Oil

Ingredients You will Need

There are very few ingredients needed for this whole recipe.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil, organic dried lavender and organic dried calendula

Steps to making Infused oil for this recipe

Here are the steps to infuse extra virgin olive oil with dried calendula and lavender flowers using the double boiler method or a glass measuring jar in a pot of water:

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Gather 1/2 cup of extra virgin olive oil, 1 Tbsp dried calendula flowers, and 1 Tbsp dried lavender flowers.
  2. Next Set Up Double Boiler or Water Bath: If using a double boiler, fill the bottom pot with about 1–2 inches of water. If using a glass measuring jar, place it in a pot of water, ensuring the water level reaches about halfway up the sides of the jar.
  3. Combine Ingredients: Place the dried flowers in the top pot of the double boiler or directly in the glass measuring jar. Pour the olive oil over the flowers, fully submerging them.
  4. Heat the Infusion: Turn the heat to low. Warm the oil gently for 1–2 hours, keeping the temperature between 100–120°F (38–49°C) to prevent burning the oil or flowers. Stir occasionally to evenly distribute the heat.
  5. Monitor the Water Level: Keep an eye on the water level in the pot, adding more if it evaporates too quickly. Avoid letting the water boil; it should be a gentle simmer.
  6. Strain the Oil: After 1–2 hours, remove the pot from heat. Let the mixture cool slightly, then strain the oil through a fine strainer or cheesecloth into a clean glass container, pressing gently to extract all the oil.
  7. Finally, Store the Infused Oil: Transfer the oil to a glass jar with a lid and store it in a cool, dark place. It should last for 6–12 months.

This method speeds up the infusion process, allowing you to enjoy the benefits of calendula and lavender in just a few hours.

I pressed out the oil using this strainer and spatula, but you can also use a tea towel or cheese cloth.

Step 2 of making this DIY Easy Body Butter Recipe

This is the final step of making this wonderful recipe

Equipment Needed For The Shea and Cocoa Butter Mixture

Ingredients You will Need

Only two ingredients needed.

Here are the steps to melt and whip Shea butter and cocoa butter with infused calendula and lavender oil:

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Gather 1/4 cup Shea butter, 1/4 cup cocoa butter, and about 1/4 cup of your infused calendula and lavender oil.

2. Set Up a Double Boiler: Place a heatproof bowl or pot over a saucepan with a few inches of simmering water (or use a proper double boiler). Ensure the water does not touch the bottom of the bowl.

3. Melt the Butters: Add the Shea butter and cocoa butter to the bowl. Gently heat on low, stirring occasionally, until fully melted. Avoid overheating to preserve the nutrients.

4. Cool the Mixture: Remove the melted butters from heat and let them cool for about 15–20 minutes until they start to thicken slightly but are still soft. For faster cooling, place the bowl in the fridge, checking and stirring every 5 minutes.

Keep whipping until you get soft peaks

5. Prepare to Whip: Once the butters are cooled but not solidified, use a hand mixer or stand mixer on medium speed to start whipping the mixture.

6. Incorporate the Infused Oil: While whipping, slowly drizzle in your infused calendula and lavender oil. Continue adding until all the oil is incorporated and the mixture becomes fluffy and smooth.

7. Optional Add-Ins: If desired, add a few drops of essential oils like lavender or chamomile for extra scent, and mix well.

8. Transfer and Store: Spoon the whipped body butter into a clean, dry glass jar with a lid. Store it in a cool, dry place, and use it within 6–12 months.

Enjoy your luxurious, all-natural whipped body butter!

Ingredients

  • Oil(s) of your choice; Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Avocado oil, Coconut oil, Jojoba oil... etc
  • Herbs or flowers
  • Essential Oils (optional)
  • Shea butter
  • Cocoa Butter

Instructions

  1. Part 1.
  • Prepare Ingredients: Gather 1/2 cup of extra virgin olive oil, 1 Tbsp dried calendula flowers, and 1 Tbsp dried lavender flowers.
  • Set Up Double Boiler or Water Bath: If using a double boiler, fill the bottom pot with about 1–2 inches of water. If using a glass measuring jar, place it in a pot of water, ensuring the water level reaches about halfway up the sides of the jar.

  • Transfer and Store: Spoon the whipped body butter into a clean, dry glass jar with a lid. Store it in a cool, dry place, and use it within 6–12 months.
  • Notes

  • Customize Consistency: If you prefer a lighter or firmer texture, adjust the ratios. Adding more oil will make it softer, while more cocoa or Shea butter will make it firmer.
  • Temperature Control: Avoid overheating the butters to prevent loss of nutrients. Keep the heat low and stir occasionally.
  • Optional Essential Oils: Enhance the scent or benefits by adding 10–20 drops of essential oils, such as lavender, chamomile, or rose, during the whipping stage.
  • Avoid Water: Ensure no water gets into the mixture during preparation, as it could introduce bacteria and shorten shelf life.
  • Whipping Tricks: If the mixture isn’t whipping properly, try placing it in the fridge for 5–10 minutes to firm it up slightly, then whip again.
