Equipment Needed For DIY Quick Lavender-Calendula Oil Infusion

Ingredients You will Need

There are very few ingredients needed for this whole recipe.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil, organic dried lavender and organic dried calendula

Steps to making Infused oil for this recipe

Here are the steps to infuse extra virgin olive oil with dried calendula and lavender flowers using the double boiler method or a glass measuring jar in a pot of water:

1. First, prepare your ingredients: Gather 1/2 cup of extra virgin olive oil, 1 Tbsp dried calendula flowers, and 1 Tbsp dried lavender flowers.

2. Next, set up your double boiler or water bath: If using a double boiler, fill the bottom pot with about 1–2 inches of water. Alternatively, if using a glass measuring jar, place it in a pot of water, ensuring the water level reaches about halfway up the sides of the jar.

3. Then, combine the ingredients: Place the dried flowers in the top pot of the double boiler or directly in the glass measuring jar. Next, pour the olive oil over the flowers, fully submerging them.

4. Afterward, heat the infusion: Turn the heat to low. Warm the oil gently for 1–2 hours, keeping the temperature between 100–120°F (38–49°C) to prevent burning the oil or flowers. Be sure to stir occasionally to evenly distribute the heat.

5. Monitor the water level: Keep an eye on the water level in the pot, adding more if it evaporates too quickly. Importantly, avoid letting the water boil; it should be a gentle simmer.

6. After 1–2 hours, strain the oil: Remove the pot from heat. Allow the mixture to cool slightly. Then strain the oil through a fine strainer or cheesecloth into a clean glass container, pressing gently to extract all the oil.

7. Finally, store the infused oil: Transfer the oil to a glass jar with a lid and store it in a cool, dark place. It is important to note that it should last for 6–12 months.

This method speeds up the infusion process, allowing you to enjoy the benefits of calendula and lavender in just a few hours.

I pressed out the oil using this strainer and spatula, but you can also use a tea towel or cheese cloth.
